Graduate Certificate in Women's Studies

This interdisciplinary certificate program offers the opportunity to develop a thorough grounding in Women's Studies scholarship while pursuing graduate training in another field or discipline. All graduate students in an MA or PhD program at UF are eligible to enroll in this program. The Center for Women's Studies and Gender Research invites graduate students from all colleges to participate.

To participate, please fill out the Graduate Certificate Plan-of-Study. Please note: Graduate students finishing their Certificates should complete the Graduate Certificate Final Approval form.

CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS:

Candidates pursuing a Certificate in Women's Studies must complete a total of 12 credit hours  at the 5000 level or above and complete a paper or project with a gender focus.   Six credits must be taken through the Center and may be chosen from two of the following:

The other six credits may be chosen from offerings under WST 6935 and thelist of outside courses which count toward Women's Studies. Graduate courses taken in the student's major department that are also Women's Studies courses  may count for the Certificate as well. In addition, students may take up to three hours of approved Independent Study (WST 6905) or may count up to three Masters or PhD research hours in their major department if the thesis or dissertation has a prominent gender focus.

Certificate work must be approved by the Center Graduate Coordinator and the Center Director.

Approved Outside Courses

Up to six credit hours from this list may be applied to the Graduate Certificate .
