- Dr. Antoinette Emch-Deriaz, CWSGR and Department of History
Dr. Emch-Deriaz was designated as a 2000 Anderson/CLAS Scholar
Faculty Honoree by the Anderson Scholar winners for her outstanding
teaching.

- Dr. Angel Kwolek-Folland, Director, CWSGR, Department of History
Dr. Kwolek-Folland attended the State University System leadership retreat
October 15-18, through the Institute for Academic Leadership at Florida
State University. She was nominated by the interim provost, David Colburn.
The workshop is "for those chairpersons who have potential for making
significant contributions to higher education in Florida."
- Dr. Milagros Peña, CWSGR and Department of Sociology
Paper presentations:
"Mobilization and Latina Non-Government Organization Activism in Mexico
and the US Southwest," American Sociological Association, August
12-16, Washington D.C. and "Latina Mobilization and the Religious
Connection on the U.S. Border," presented at the Society for the Scientific
Study of Religion, October 19-22, Houston.
Dr. Peña was awarded a laptop by the Office of Instructional
Research (OIR) in order to develop web pages as permanent resources
for her classes. Congradulations Dr. Peña!
- Dr. Zoharah Simmons, Department of Religion
Dr. Simmons was nominated to serve on the African Studies Advisory Council.
The Center for African Studies Advisory Council's main purpose is to
promote the programs and goals of the Center for African Studies in
the University, by providing suggestions and advice to the director
and the administrative staff of the Center. It also plays an advocacy
role within the university and greater community for African studies
and Africa-related issues.
